Patterned leggings are a bit of a thing for us – especially tie-dye leggings.

We do parkrun, we hike, we cycle everywhere, and so leggings are kind of essential. And it’s fun to brighten them up a bit.

Watch below to see how to tie-dye leggings in a zig-zag pattern!

The love of tie-dye leggings tends to be limited to the girls, and the guys in the family tend to stick to plain black. Although Forrest did wear Asha’s flamingo leggings to the Te Araroa trail in New Zealand – his black ones didn’t arrive in time, but he was pretty happy to have huge hot-pink flamingos on his legs.

The brown went a bit strange here too (Gabrielle dyed them at the same time as the green fan-dyed shirt), and I think we may also need to keep the dyed items warmer as they cure because the colours were less vibrant than usual. We’ve done all of our dyeing in tropical Queensland until this year, and the Tasmania climate is quite a bit different.

We had these on the mantlepiece above the fire all evening and overnight, but a bit more warmth would give us brighter colours. Maybe hot water bottles? We’ll keep experimenting.

Bring on parkrun this week!

We use Procion dyes, but if you want something a little simpler Tulip tie-dye kits are a great option.

Thanks for watching! We’d love to hear if you decide to try it and DIY your own tie dyes. Tag @dyediyhq on Instagram or Facebook and we’ll check it out.
